“In my own name and on behalf of the people and government of Saudi Arabia, I offer deep condolences and sincere sympathy to you and the families of the victims wishing the injured a speedy recovery,” King Abdullah said in his message.

Crown Prince Sultan also offered condolences to King Carlos on the tragic accident.

Emergency services earlier said only 23 of the 173 passengers and crew on board the Spanair flight survived when it crashed after swerving off the runway. The death toll was revised later to 153.
