MAKKAH: A Pakistani expatriate who tried to swindle a Saudi man out of SR340,000 in Taif was arrested in Makkah.
“The man told the Saudi that his relative had found eight kilograms of gold worth over SR1 million under a demolished building close to the Grand Mosque in Makkah and that his relative was willing to part with the find for SR300,000,” said Maj. Abdul Muhsin Al-Mayman, a spokesman for Makkah police. “He also said that he wanted SR40,000 in commission.”
The Saudi man expressed a desire to buy the gold and said that he needed time to arrange the cash. However, the man told the story to police who then worked with the man to arrest the conman. “After some time, the man told the Pakistani that he had the money and was ready to go to his relative to see a sample of the gold before taking the whole quantity,” said Al-Mayman.
The two came to Makkah together in the same car. Police stopped the car and arrested the Pakistani man who had with him two bracelets of fake gold.
