MAKKAH: One pilgrim died from smoke inhalation and four were injured after a fire broke out at about 7:30 p.m. at a hotel in the central area of the holy city, according to the city’s fire department spokesman Brig. Ali Al-Muntashri.
Five teams from the fire department and three Civil Defense teams moved in and evacuated 93 pilgrims from the five-level hotel in Al-Misfala area.
Al-Muntashri said that the fire department is still investigating the accident but early inspection reveals that it might be related to electrical short.
