JEDDAH: Saudi border guards arrested an unknown number of suspects at the northern border town of Halat Ammar, in Tabuk province, for smuggling drugs into the Kingdom, a Border Guard official said yesterday.
The suspects of unknown nationality were caught with about one million pills of Captagon, the commercial name for fenethylline, a medical amphetamine.
Lt. Col. Abdullah Al-Ghurair, of the Saudi Border Guard, told Arab News that the smugglers attempted to smuggle the pills in garbage bags.
“Halat Ammar police have been tracking the drug smugglers for a while and made the bust as they entered the Kingdom from Jordan,” said Al-Ghurair.
