RIYADH: Prince Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah, adviser to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah and a member of the board of the King Abdul Aziz Public Library, has announced that the names of institutions and individuals that have won the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz International Award for Translation in all five categories will be announced on March 7.
Prince Abdul Aziz said the award aims to enhance cultural awareness, establish scientific ties between nations, and promote communication between cultures and civilizations. The award also seeks to work toward enriching Arabic literature with distinguished works and improving the level of translation.
“The award’s goals of spreading a culture of dialogue between civilizations had been highly received internationally,” said Prince Abdul Aziz. He added that the award is within the framework of King Abdullah’s efforts to support education and scientific knowledge.
The award, which is part of King Abdullah’s vision to promote cultural exchange and advance intellectual interaction among civilizations, was established on Oct. 31, 2006, on the approval of the King Abdul Aziz Public Library Council.
“The number of translations presented to the judging committees signify the large interaction of institutions, establishments and individuals with the goals of the award,” said Faisal bin Al-Muammar, general supervisor of the King Abdul Aziz Library.
Al-Muammar said over 127 translated works have been received. He added that works are evaluated based on several factors, including content and accuracy.
The award is an annual international event for distinguished works of translation and prominent institutions that have significantly contributed to translating from and into Arabic.
The categories include humanities, natural sciences and institutions. “King Abdul Aziz Library has provided all the possible means and arrangements in the best form suitable for the internationally acknowledged event and its noble goals,” said Prince Abdul Aziz.
