RIYADH: Police are searching for an Indian worker who has been reported missing for four days after going to Riyadh’s downtown area to purchase stock for his grocery shop in Suweidi.
Ahmed Mohammed, 42, disappeared after coming to Batha on Saturday with a substantial amount of cash. Following a report by his brother, Abdul Hameed, police began searching for him in hospitals, jails and government detention camps.
According to Hameed, Mohammed reached Batha at 10 a.m. on Saturday and that his mobile phone was on until 1 p.m. the same day. “We panicked when his phone was switched off, as he never switches it off,” said Hameed, adding that he then lodged a complaint with the police.
“My brother has no reason to run away as he runs the grocery under a Saudi sponsor,” he said. He added that he would have had over SR20,000 in cash as he restocks the store on Saturdays.
Batha is the main area in Riyadh where retailers come to purchase goods from wholesalers. Streets such as Rail, Ghoraibi and Darakther are notorious for robbers, pickpockets and petty thieves.
Mohammed has three children and a wife, who live in his native city of Malappuram in the southern Indian state of Kerala. He has been in the Kingdom for the last 10 years; his son-in-law, Mohamed Saleem, lives with him in the same apartment.
