AL-JOUF: The Civil Defense and other related authorities have mobilized efforts to the maximum level in the past two days because of heavy rains that have caused flooding in the area.
Al-Jouf Gov. Prince Fahd ibn Badr has personally followed up on activities in Skaka and other areas, and conducted field trips to assess damage. He also ordered immediate relief for citizens who have been affected by the floods.
The prince ordered the formation of a special committee to assess damage.
Many citizens and residents in the area have been stuck inside their homes because of floodwaters.
The Civil Defense rescued several drivers who were trapped in rural locations due to fast flowing floodwaters.
Capt. Atalla Al-Ruwaili, official spokesman for the Civil Defense in Al-Jouf, said his department is ready for any emergency at any time.
“The heavy rain caused flood in many valleys. The flooded areas are particular places of attraction for local people. These spots are dangerous and need to be avoided,” he said. Floods also caused many roads to cave in. The road between Suwaer and Hadban was damaged.
Electric pylons were also damaged in the Suwaer area and on the road between Arar and Skaka.
Residents living in low-lying areas — prone to flooding — evacuated their homes two hours before the heavy rains, and moved in with relatives to safe areas.
