JEDDAH: The Ministry of Interior has issued new instructions to be followed by citizens and foreign residents while reporting loss of official documents, such as passports or residency permits, to the authorities.

According to a statement issued yesterday, the loss of a passport or iqama (residency permit) must be reported to the nearest Passport Department office.

The loss of a civil status ID, the family card or a birth certificate should be reported to the nearest office of the Civil Affairs Department, the statement said.

It said the loss of a driver’s license or a vehicle registration should be reported to the Traffic Department.

“With regard to stolen license plates, reports should be submitted to police stations,” the statement said.

“If any of the documents were lost as a result of criminal activity the matter should be immediately reported to police,” said the ministry.

“In case a particular area does not have the specified office where the loss of a document should have been reported, the concerned person can file a report at the nearby police station,” it added.
