TAIF: Swine flu “fever” has struck the Kingdom with many suddenly becoming a lot more aware of close personal contact. According to a report in yesterday’s Okaz newspaper, a Saudi groom in Taif decided to forego the time-honored tradition of kissing his guests on the cheek, a common form of Saudi greeting between men. And just in case anyone was to become offended, the groom announced to everyone that he was simply taking precautions against contracting the virus. At least he didn’t show up to his wedding party wearing a hazmat suit!

Ignored at airport? Tear up your passport!

RIYADH: One way for a Saudi (or anyone for that matter) to get undue attention at an airport check-in is to tear up a passport and begin yelling about going to Pakistan to join Al-Qaeda. According to a report in yesterday’s Al-Riyadh newspaper, this is exactly what a Saudi traveler did at the airport in Dubai. Officials, who deemed the man more a threat to himself than anyone else, alerted Saudi authorities who sent the man home for psychological treatment.
