DAMMAM: A young man managed to dislodge his vehicle that was stuck in the sand west of the town of Al-Khafji only to watch it drive away into the desert. It’s unclear how the man managed the genius act of engaging the car’s accelerator to help get it dislodged, but it’s clear he learned his lesson after the vehicle set off on its own. The car traveled for 48 km across the barren landscape, crossing King Khaled Military Base Road and through herds of sheep and camels before overturning on a farm belonging to one Saad Falah. “I almost started believing in ghosts after my laborer told me that he saw a car without a driver in it driving across my farm before somersaulting into a ditch,” said Falah.
Shepherd torches stolen cash
HAFR BATIN: A farmer complained recently to local police about SR13,000 that he says had been stolen from him by a shepherd in his employ. After questioning, the shepherd confessed he had stolen the money; but because he only needed SR500 he burned the rest of the cash. According to a report in Monday’s Al-Shams newspaper, the detectives and the farmer were flummoxed by the confession and refused to believe the story until the shepherd led them to the charred remains of the bank notes. This is a good opportunity for the farmer to consider holding his future savings in something less flammable — like gold perhaps!
Locals interrupt dueling Romeos
MAKKAH: Two men vying for the hand of a local beauty decided to resolve the matter with a good old-fashioned duel. The men met on a street corner and began punching each other. Then they moved on to using sticks. Neighbors intervened when they saw one of the men clubbing the other who had fallen so vigorously they feared they were witnessing a murder. According to a report in Monday’s Al-Shams daily, the police were called in. The defeated youth was taken to hospital while the victor won custody in a local police station until the conflict could be resolved.
