Feb. 5 Kashmir solidarity day

JEDDAH: The Pakistani community will observe Feb. 5 as Kashmir solidarity day to express support to the just cause of the freedom movement in the disputed region. A press statement from the Consulate General of Pakistan said the community has planned programs to register their concern over the “atrocities of the Indian occupying forces.” The Kashmir Committee is organizing a special function at the residence of Pakistan Consul General.

Srinagar demo turns violent

SRINAGAR: A Muslim youth was killed and eight others injured when police fired tear gas and used batons to disperse scores of protesters in Kashmir on Sunday, police and witnesses said. The youth was critically injured when a tear gas shell hit his head. The death sparked more protests in Srinagar, with demonstrators burning tires and blocking roads, residents said.

Eight Filipino fishermen missing

MANILA: Eight fishermen have been missing at sea for almost a week after their boat went down west of the Philippine capital, the coast guard said Sunday. The E.J. Brother was reported by its owner to have sunk in rough waters off the province of Bataan on Jan. 25 with only two of its crew rescued by a passing vessel.
