RIYADH: The Kingdom’s Tamimi Group, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, has opened a new supermarket in Riyadh to mark the event.
Hussein A. Al-Athel, secretary general of the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), officially inaugurated the latest Tamimi store in the up market Rabwa district of Riyadh amid great fanfare on Monday night.
Expressing his delight after cutting a ribbon to mark the inauguration, Al-Athel said that the opening “demonstrates how local companies can be successful and can cater to the needs of customers despite stiff international competition.”
“Tamimi has planned to open two stores in Riyadh every year as part of its aggressive expansion plan,” said Mohammed Tamimi, managing director of Tamimi Markets, adding that Riyadh alone would have some 13 modern stores by 2012.
The company also plans to open a store at King Abdullah University for Science and Technology (KAUST) in the Western Province. The latest store opening means that Tamimi Markets now has 13 outlets in the Kingdom, making it one of the biggest retailers of food and provisions in the country. With four stores in the Eastern Province, it is looking at additional sites in Jubail and Dammam.
As part of its anniversary celebrations, Tamimi said that the supermarket chain is offering huge discounts and promotions.
