- MAKKAH: The recent heavy rains in Makkah have prompted a number of government and private bodies to train staff in what to do in emergency situations.
Among organizations providing training to their staff are several private hospitals, which have called in trainers from the Civil Defense.
Medical staff have been given training in what to do in the event of rains and floods, and how to evacuate entire buildings. The Civil Defense instructors have also carried out mock evacuations. Jumaa Al-Khayat, supervisor at Alawi Tunsi Private Hospital, told Arab News that staff at his hospital have been provided with training on what to do in an emergency, how to use fire extinguishers and water hoses, and how to check smoke alarms and heat detectors. “Those undertaking the training were also briefed in what to do if it rains or if there are floods,” said Al-Khayyat, adding that a two-week training session is to be held at the hospital starting March 1.
