CSA also said Jacques Kallis will be the Proteas vice-captain, under regular skipper Graeme Smith, until the end of next year's tournament.

Van Zyl was appointed temporary coach after Mickey Arthur's resignation last month. When Arthur left, the country's national selectors were replaced by an interim panel of CSA chief executive Gerald Majola, Van Zyl and batting consultant Kepler Wessels.

CSA also said it had accepted a recommendation to appoint a new four-member selection panel made up of a national convener, a high performance representative, Van Zyl and Smith.

The process to appoint the new committee members will begin immediately, according to CSA.

“These decisions were made with the goal of streamlining the selection and management processes around the Proteas as one of the main objectives of getting the squad back on top of the world logs and staying there,” said CSA president Mtutuzeli Nyoka on the Cricket South Africa Web site.

The 48-year-old Van Zyl, a former South Africa fast bowler, oversaw the drawn test series in India after taking over from Arthur days before the tour. He will now be coach until April 2011, taking in the World Twenty20, a three-test tour of West Indies and next year's World Cup.

It had already been announced that experienced all-rounder Kallis would stand in as captain for the injured Smith for three one-dayers against India starting on Sunday.

The board also said it had accepted an invitation to host the 12-team Champions League Twenty20 tournament in September.
