“The carnival will kick off from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Last year around 7,000 visitors attended the event, which included music talent shows, a Saudi movie screening, and water games,” said school superintendent Mark English yesterday.

“The school was able to raise more than SR800,000 from ticket sales, bazaars, rides and games last year.”

Money from the carnival is used to upgrade classrooms and improve computer labs and existing facilities.

Various companies will be sponsoring the event.

“Kia will be giving a car each to two lucky winners at the carnival. There are also raffle draws with prizes including airline tickets, electronic goods and many more. We will also be giving away breaks at Westin Hotels in Jeddah.”

This year’s carnival will have camel and horse rides as well as a local Saudi dance band, a Michael Jackson impersonator and rock and roll band, among others. The night will end with a fireworks display.

The American International School in Jeddah is a not for profit institution for children at all levels from kindergarten through to high school.

It has been continually seeking out additional sources of revenue and has hosted various activities to raise funds. Islamic and Arabic studies are part of the school curriculum.
