Forget about the absurdity of the advance signing policy, the fact is everyone wants in.

Spinning, also known as indoor cycling, has gained incredible popularity in the Kingdom.

Women lining up well in advance in the hope of claiming a coveted seat are proof of this.

Yet it is Yasmine Hisham Hassan who is at the forefront of this phenomenon.

At both Gold’s Gym and Chamelle Plaza, you can be sure to find her at the front of the spin room, facing her spinners as she instructs them to increase their resistance and switch to position three!

Yasmine is one of the few female Schwinn Silver Level certified cycling trainers in Jeddah.

Certified by the Aerobic and Fitness Association of America as both a Schwinn indoor cycling ispinning: a sensation in the kingdom

nstructor and personal trainer, Yasmine is highly qualified to help us women get into shape and more importantly, get us the legs we crave!

“The most common question I get asked by women is ‘will it give me big legs?’ Absolutely not,” says Yasmine.

So if you’ve been hesitant to take on spinning because of a fear of getting the Incredible Hulk’s thighs, have no worries.

In fact, the quick revolutions of the pedals actually tone and shape the legs, making your thighs and calves lean and sculpted.

“The truth is, spinning will tone leg muscles better than anything else ever devised by mankind, without bulking them up into those of a weightlifter.”

I personally can attest to the visual benefits of spin. I myself had an hourglass figure — unfortunately, with all the sand at the bottom — and therefore know all too well the challenges of dealing with thunder thighs.

But after attending spin classes three times a week for only two months, my legs became less reminiscent of shawarma rotisseries and more defined like Tina Turner’s!

“Working out on the bike helps tone and strengthen your glutes (backside muscles), quads, hamstrings, calves and even abs — as they are all targeted during cycling,” Yasmine explains.

By staying at a moderate intensity on the bike, you can increase muscle endurance.

“And when cycling uphill, the rider is out of the saddle and standing on the pedals, thus forcing the body to use the glutes above all else and helping the posterior to adapt, define and start looking better than hot!”

There are many benefits to spinning, says Yasmine.

“You burn 500 plus calories per class, which helps decrease body fat and increase your metabolism and energy. It also relieves stress and improves overall strength.”

Spinning is a great cardio workout, as well as a low-impact exercise meaning that it minimizes stress to bones and joints, making it an ideal choice for daughter, mom and even grandma.

Spinning classes consist of mixed exercises on indoor training bikes. Lasting up to one hour, a session typically incorporates a combination of cycling techniques, from warm-up exercises at an easy level to high-intensity, uphill climbs.
