- It is Thursday night.
- Everywhere it is the same.
But not here. Mermaid is different. A beauty salon tucked away in the back streets of Tahlia, just nearby Danube Supermarket, Mermaid is a hidden cove of beauty and charm where one can easily feel right at home.
Even the surface aesthetic of the place resembles your friend’s villa more than a beauty salon. After pushing a buzzer before entering, the gates open to reveal a patio adorned with tables and chairs. Women sit and sip on tea as they puff on cigarettes and engage in friendly conversations.
The reception really drives home the concept of a living room with the same welcoming aesthetic. Here women sit and sip on coffee just as they would at the home of a close friend, discussing the latest trends in make-up and hair.
Another feature that makes Mermaid unique is that it offers different membership packages.
“We encourage taking one of our packages,” says Rania Alsuleimani, owner of Mermaid. “It makes the experience more intimate.”
For example, members have an open tab that they can pay off later. Thus, clients never need to dig into their wallets with wet nails again! Members also get priority in reservations, which is especially helpful during those times when you forgot you had that mubaraka on Thursday night!
Monthly memberships include a package of services, ranging from blow-drying and manicures—make-up applications and certain hair treatments are not included, so you might still need to pay for these services at a discounted rate. Besides the basic monthly membership, Mermaid also offers the Bronze (6 month) and Pearl (annual) memberships. A benefit of the Pearl package is that clients get a locker with their own hairbrush and manicure tools.
This is a boutique salon where socializing is highly encouraged and making you feel at home is a must.
Mermaids are legendary sea-dwelling creatures that boast unmatched beauty and allure. “Mermaids possess a universal appeal with their long beautiful hair,” adds Alsuleimani. “We want our clients to walk out of here feeling beautiful like a mermaid.”
