As a result of the new allowances, first class and business class passengers will now be allowed to check-in two pieces of luggage weighing a total of 50 kg. In the past, first and business class passengers were only allowed 40 kg.

Those traveling on economy class will be allowed to check-in one piece of luggage weighing 25 kg, whereas in the past they were only allowed to check-in luggage not exceeding 20 kg.

“The new system aims to increase customer satisfaction. Limiting the number of luggage carried by passengers will protect luggage and conveyor belts from getting damaged and will make the job of luggage handlers easier. This will also save more room on the airplane,” said Mahdi Hassan, Saudi Airline’s Ground Operations’ assistant general.

“Customers carrying Al-Fursan membership card including the gold, silver and blue card will get the privilege to carry additional luggage weighing no more than 25 kg, which will increase their total weight to 75 kg,” he added.

He explained that the new system is based on limiting the number of luggage checked-in. If a piece of luggage exceeds the 25 kg limit, then the passenger will be asked to divide the weight into two pieces. Excess weight will be charged at SR100 per piece.
