She also thanked Arab News for following up on her case. Her family lives in Cavite province, south of Manila. Separated from her husband, she has two children. Police rescued the maid on May 15 after she called the Philippine Consulate coordinator in Al-Salamah district for help.

She had initiated contact with the coordinator in January, but was unable to say where she could be found.

This is because a maid in the Kingdom spends most of her time at her sponsor's house, rarely stepping outside.

She followed the coordinator's advice and escaped the house. She then called him back to say she was at the Ministry of Education in Taif, which was actually a school in Al-Qumriyah district.

Accompanied by police and the coordinator, she eventually reported to the local police precinct. Officers called the sponsor, who was working at a government hospital, and summoned him to the police station on Saturday afternoon.

The suspect did not deny the charge and was asked to pay SR5,000 and issue an exit visa for the maid's repatriation.

Meanwhile, a Filipino maid who ran away from her job because her sponsor’s wife allegedly slapped her has sought employment with another Saudi family on the same salary.

The wife was allegedly jealous of the maid’s good looks. Transfer of sponsorship is being worked out.

The maid claimed another reason for leaving was the maltreatment of the family's youngest son by his mother.

The maid had looked after the three-year-old boy since birth.

She was also tutoring the boy and his five other siblings. She has a bachelorÍ's degree in education from a university in the southern Philippines.
