- JEDDAH: Prince Naif, second deputy and minister of interior, who is chairman of the ministerial committee for the development of the areas in Makkah region, has approved new mechanisms to compensate those whose lands have been acquired by the government for development projects but who do not possess ownership documents.
He also approved plans to develop suburban areas. The prince made the approvals during a ministerial committee meeting Tuesday evening.
The meeting was attended by Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, acting Labor Minister Abdul Aziz Al-Khuwaitir, Minister of Finance Ibrahim Al-Assaf and other officials. Prince Naif also approved plans to develop the streets of the districts of Ghulail and Petromin in south Jeddah. He was given a presentation about plans to develop areas in east Jeddah.
He urged all concerned government agencies to continue efforts aimed at implementing the ambitions of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Crown Prince to make Jeddah a model city.
Ghulail is one of the districts hit very badly by the Jeddah flood. A resident of Ghulail, said the district has been suffering from overflowing septic tanks for long.
“Many people have contacted the municipality’s operation room to remove sewage from streets but they have failed to take any action,” he said.
The Petromin district is one of the districts in south Jeddah where a high rate of illiteracy and poverty is prevalent.
