According to eyewitnesses, two Indians, identified as Sumeesh and Sunil, were trying to fix the motor of the pump that helps carry the sewage out of the tank when they lost consciousness.

The motor is located quite deep in the tank. When they failed to respond to calls from their assistants above ground, that is when an alarm was raised.

Fateh, the expert Egyptian technician, was called in to help rescue the two Indians. However, Fateh too inhaled the poisonous gases and died.

Civil Defense officials rushed to the supermarket, which is a prominent landmark on the Alkhobar Corniche. They rushed the three to the nearby hospital where they were declared “brought dead.”

Police have opened an enquiry into what is being described as a first of its kind accident in Alkhobar.
