This, however, is not as important as finding out the reasons behind recent attacks against Saudis in a number of Arab countries. There have been news reports about violence against Saudis in Bahrain and Syria.

The newspapers carried a statement by the Saudi Embassy in Bahrain, which read: “The hitting and kicking of a Saudi citizen at King Fahd Causeway by six Bahraini security men, including an officer, while he was returning to the Kingdom, was similar to previous attacks against citizens and foreigners in the Kingdom of Bahrain.”

It is worth mentioning that Bahrain is one of Saudi Arabia’s closest countries on a geographic and political level.

There was another report the other day about three armed robberies against Saudis in Syria within one month.

A Saudi citizen in Syria was robbed of SR40,000, 13 mobile phones and his car. He was pulled out of his car in a dark area. This is of course in addition to the beatings and injuries he sustained.

We want to know the reasons behind the attacks on Saudis who travel to these sister countries to spend a good vacation.

These reports bring back to our minds past aggressions against Saudis that eventually forced the authorities to prevent citizens from traveling to certain countries.

The fact that the Saudi ambassador follows up cases of aggressions against his countrymen is not enough to make these countries safe.

I do not believe that these aggressions are coincidental.

When Saudis traveled to Syria in the past they felt safe and secure. Nobody would dare to attack them. Rare cases of attacks and thefts were sternly dealt with by Syrian security forces.

Today the situation is frightening. It cannot be corrected unless top officials intervene.

The Saudi ambassador to Syria said: “The embassy is following up the hunt for the criminals who attacked the Saudi citizen and his family with local security authorities. The embassy has completed travel procedures for them on board Saudia.”

I wish very much that I knew the reasons for this humiliation that Saudis are subjected to.

Even if we assume that the Saudi has made mistakes, they can be corrected by applying rules and regulations, not by attacks and violence.

These are regrettable events that I wish would end.
