Last season we saw Al Ali return to his roots, with his Spring Summer line called Damascus Rose, a stunning line of in-house designed prints and intricate detailing that has become his trademark.

This year, Al Ali sent the Persian Princess down the runway — in all her majestic beauty.

“Persia is known for its wealth of colors, texture and forms,” explained Al Ali, “I wanted to recreate that magic in my new collection.”

He felt that Persia was a perfect inspirational compliment for his Autumn-Winter line because of the rich details and the deep colors.

“Also, the texture and forms,” he added, “They have a very warm and wintry look.”

Al Ali introduced the weaving pattern in draped chiffon into his collection.

“I was creating the form of a nut in different ways, which is the core of the carpet’s beauty and value, as well as embroidery and fabric draping to create the richness of the design. The color palette ranged from royal blues and maroons, to luxurious metallic fabrics in gold and silver. “I wanted to create the same mood of a palace where Shahrazad would be; its very deep, very rich, magnificence and prosperous,” revealed Al Ali, “I used the traditional gold tone, but with a modern edge and application. The dark deep velvet shades of dark charcoal blue and maroon give the same feel and richness of the old vintage Persian carpets.”

From his gold plisse dress, to his gown of velvet and sequins, Al Ali used an intriguing plethora of fabrics. “Every season I like to challenge myself with the collection,” explained Al Ali, “Be it the new techniques in cuts, the structure or choice of fabrics.”

He believes that this type of internal challenge is what motivates a designer to create the masterpieces that remain timeless.

Al Ali also presented a variety of cuts, showcasing his master craftsmanship and ability to enhance all female body shapes. From his sexy bateau and V-necklines to the glamorous one-shoulder gowns, Al Ali was able to produce a must-have collection for every international fashionista. “My aim was to create a contrast between the balanced symmetrical dress details and uneven necklines,” said Al Ali. “This contrast breaks the very well constructed design and gives it an edge. Experimenting with shape in this new collection was quite interesting as I wanted to be able to translate the theme to perfection by bringing the 21st century edge to the ancient, as a means to celebrate the heritage.”

The designs transcend boundaries with their juxtaposition of references. For example, Al Ali’s silver-gray concoction included a very European cut — the ribbed bodice with intricate lace, complemented by a conservative jacket covered in Persian-inspired print. Or his forest green Roman tunic dress that was heavy with arabesque embellishment. Such designs are what make Al Ali such a coveted designer from all corners of the world. “I used very ethnic Middle Eastern details and blended it with very European shapes and structure,” stated Al Ali, “It gives the gowns a modern edge and keeps it away from looking like a costume.”

Al Ali Couture is a blend of Western dazzle, Eastern femininity with hints of European inspired Couture. But instead of bridging East and West, Al Ali maybe doing the exact opposite, as fashionistas from everywhere will be fighting to get their hands on one of his designs!
