Carlos Quentin homered in his second straight game while helping the White Sox draw even again after being knocked out of first place for the first time since July 10 with a 12-6 loss to the Twins on Tuesday.

They fared better this time after dropping four of five, with a rare victory over a team that had won 18 of 23 against them.

Danks (12-8) allowed one run and six hits. Quentin hit a two-run shot in the second off Glen Perkins (0-1) that made it 2-0.

The Twins got two hits apiece from Michael Cuddyer and Joe Mauer , who has 27 in his last 50 at-bats after going 2 for 4. Otherwise, it was a rough night for Minnesota.

Yankees 7 Rangers 6: At Arlington, Texas, Marcus Thames hit a long homer then had the go-ahead RBI single in the ninth inning as New York rallied from five runs down for a split in the two-game series between the division leaders.

Thames’ grounder between shortstop and third base came after Derek Jeter had tied the game with a chopper past a drawn-in infield, an RBI single off Rangers rookie All-Star closer Neftali Feliz (3-3).

Mariano Rivera worked the ninth for his 24th save in 26 chances. Elvis Andrus led off the inning with a triple before the Yankees closer retired the Nos. 2-4 hitters.

Thames led off the eighth with his fourth homer of the season getting New York within 6-5.

Kerry Wood (2-4) threw two scoreless innings for his first decision in his five appearances since New York acquired him from Cleveland on July 31.

Orioles 3 Indians 1: At Cleveland, Brad Bergesen pitched a two-hitter for his first win in nearly three months for surging Baltimore.

The Orioles won their fourth straight and moved to 8-1 under new manager Buck Showalter. They became the last team in the majors to reach 40 wins this season.

Bergesen (4-9) held the Indians hitless until Luis Valbuena singled with two outs in the fifth. Asdrubal Cabrera singled with two outs in the ninth for Cleveland’s other hit.

Baltimore backed Bergesen with 13 hits and he won for the first time in 13 starts. He had gone 0-7 with a 6.65 ERA. Bergesen walked two and struck out four.

Rookie Josh Tomlin (1-2) took the loss. Cleveland has dropped four straight and nine of its last 11 at home.

Red Sox 10 Blue Jays 1: At Toronto, Bill Hall hit two home runs, and Adrian Beltre and J.D. Drew also connected for Boston.

Hall, who drove in four runs, and Mike Lowell each had three hits as the Red Sox improved to 9-2 against Toronto this season.

The Red Sox have hit 153 home runs this season, second in the majors to Toronto’s 178.

Clay Buchholz (13-5) won his third straight decision, allowing one unearned run and five hits in eight innings and lowering his ERA to 2.49.

Hall led off the second with a home run, then added a two-run shot, his 15th of the season, in the fourth. It was the fourth multihomer game of his career.

Drew hit a solo homer in Boston’s five-run fifth, his 14th. Beltre capped the inning with a three-run drive, his 21st.

Blue Jays right-hander Shaun Marcum (10-6) allowed a season-high eight runs and seven hits in four-plus innings, including a career-high four home runs.

Angels 2 Royals 1: At Anaheim, California, Bobby Abreu homered in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Los Angeles Angels a three-game sweep.

Abreu sent a 1-1 pitch from Jesse Chavez (0-1) into the right-field seats with one out. The Angels rushed from the dugout to greet Abreu but stood back, giving him plenty of room to safely cross the plate.

Kendry Morales sustained a season-ending broken leg on May 29 while jumping on home plate during a raucous celebration of a walkoff grand slam.

Brian Fuentes (1-0) pitched a perfect 10th to get the victory.

Angels starter Jered Weaver struck out 11, giving him a major league-leading 182. He surpassed his career-high of 174 strikeouts last season.

Tigers 3 Rays 2: At Detroit, Ryan Raburn hit a tiebreaking, two-run homer in the sixth inning and the Tigers held on to avoid a series sweep.

Justin Verlander (13-7) gave up one run and six hits while striking out seven over six innings. Ryan Perry pitched 1 2-3 innings of scoreless relief and Jose Valverde allowed a run before earning his 22nd save in 23 chances.

Matt Garza (11-7) gave up three runs and seven hits in 5 2-3 innings. He is winless in three starts since his no-hitter July 26 against Detroit.

Athletics 5 Mariners 1: At Seattle, Dallas Braden tossed a four-hitter for his fourth career complete game, Mark Ellis hit three doubles and drove in three runs, and the Athletics cruised past Seattle.

Braden (7-8) won for just the third time in nine decisions since throwing a perfect game on May 9 against Tampa Bay. He was out from June 23-July 20 with left elbow tightness, but is 3-1 since coming off the disabled list.

Luke French (1-3) went six innings in the loss. He allowed seven hits and four runs.
