“I hope that Saher will bring some sort of order to the chaos of the traffic, particularly at signals before the breaking of fast,” said Jeddah resident Ahmad Al-Sindi.

Saleh Al-Shamrani, another Jeddah resident, expressed his strong displeasure at the lawlessness on roads shortly before iftar. “In their hurry some people drive on to sidewalks or the dividers to jump to another side of the road. It may cause accidents to pedestrians as well. Some others run red lights at mad speeds,” he said.

Another Saudi, Abdul Aziz Al-Ghamdi, said people commit violations on the road because of their lack of awareness of the painful consequences of their acts. “What they need is proper education on the dangers involved in wrong driving. They should also be taught the Islamic teachings on such violations,” he said.

Saleh Al-Zahrani, another Saudi, said he believed that the cameras of Saher would register all violations and would serve as a deterrent against irresponsible behavior on roads.

Saeed Al-Qahtani, another Saudi, urged the traffic police to deploy more policemen at intersections and crowded roads during Ramadan.

Director of Accidents in Yanbu Capt. Homaid Al-Sahfi, said people cause accidents because of their ignorance of traffic regulations apart from the fact that they are impelled by their desire to reach home before the iftar.

He urged people to go home a little in advance so that they could avoid speeding and the inevitable accidents.
