He said work on an 18-month project to renovate the area commenced about a year ago and the first phase, involving the refurbishment of buildings, was recently completed.

Turki said the project also involves the installation of 112 fire hydrants situated 75 meters away from each other.

He added that a reservoir with a 1,500 cubic meters capacity was installed to provide water for firefighters to use as it will not be possible for trucks and large vehicles to enter the area.
