The MNS workers acting on the directives of Raj had attacked multiplexes not screening Marathi movies in Mumbai, Thane and other parts of the state on Aug. 14. Raj had said that it was mandatory for the multiplex owners to screen 44 shows at prime time.

Raj was served the notice on Saturday under Section 149 of the Criminal Procedure Code by Madhukar Sanke Assistant Commissioner of Police.

Senior inspector of Shivaji Park police station S.R. Unawane said the serving of the notice was necessary to restrain Raj from making provocative speeches.

Holding Raj responsible for the vandalism by MNS workers, the notice said: "Because of your provocative speeches, the MNS workers had gone on rampage and attacked multiplexes destroying public properties. You are hereby warned that in future you will be held solely responsible for your provocative speeches and for any break of law and order."

The working president of Shiv Sena, Uddhav Thackeray, had also told multiplex owners to screen Marathi movies during prime time and reduce the rates of tickets.

Meanwhile Manikrao Thakre, the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president attacking the Shiv Sena on Saturday said the Sena was responsible for proliferation of slums in Mumbai.

Thakre said it was the primary responsibility of the Bombay Municipal Corporation, which is controlled by the Sena, to ensure adequate steps to halt encroachments.
