- RIYADH: Crown Prince Sultan, deputy premier and minister of defense and aviation, has been selected as the Personality of the Year for the International Prize for the Memorization of the Holy Qur’an in recognition of his services in spreading the Message.
The crown prince was selected for the prize in the 10 annual meeting of the International Commission for the Holy Qur’an Memorization in Jeddah on Tuesday.
Secretary-General of the Sultan bin Abdul Aziz Charity Foundation Prince Faisal bin Sultan congratulated the crown prince for winning the prize, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Sunday.
“The choice of the crown prince, who is also the supreme chief of the foundation, for the international prize was not only for his efforts in the service of popularizing the Holy Qur’an but also for his support for the projects aimed at the development of the Muslims in the Kingdom and abroad both in his personal capacity and through the foundation,” Prince Faisal said.
The prince added that the crown prince’s agreement to sponsor the Holy Qur’an Contest of African Continent is a proof of his noble service. It was the crown prince who held a competition for Asia early this year, the prince said. “He also regularly organizes competitions for military personnel. He also sponsors many programs in Islamic studies in collaboration with various international universities and approved a number of agreements to collaborate with the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) and UNESCO in cultural and educational fields that support the service of Muslim societies in the world,” the prince said.
