- BERLIN: German prosecutors say they have charged a 36-year-old Turkish man with membership in a banned Turkish leftist group that seeks armed struggle against the government in Ankara.
The federal prosecutor's office said Tuesday that Alaattin A. served as a leading member of the Marxist terrorist organization DHKP-C from October 2002 to April 2009. He was arrested in February.
Prosecutors say the suspect collected money from DHKP-C members in Germany and served as a courier for the organization.
DHKP-C is listed as a terrorist organization by the US and European Union. It has claimed responsibility for a number of assassinations and bombings since the 1970s.
