- RIYADH: MBC has decided to stop the airing of “Haleema Serials,” a Kuwaiti program in view of the increasing public criticism against the tantalizing way Haleema Bouland appears in her role.
Over the past two weeks many young men and women in the Gulf countries have been expressing their disapproval on Facebook regarding Haleema’s appearance in the MBC Ramadan special, Al-Watan daily reported on Thursday.
“It is scandalous in the month of Ramadan to appear in a voluptuous and tantalizing manner on the screen” and “Haleema’s dressing style is outrageous,” are just two examples of the type of SMS messages being bandied about.
Speaking on the decision to stop the serial, an official spokesman of the television company Mazen Al-Hayek said: “The decision to suspend the serial was taken after our daily evaluation of Ramadan programs. Every program should strictly fulfill the restrictions needed for the holy month.” The news of the stoppage of the program came as a relief to many families who criticized the way she dresses and speaks. Um Hanifa, Saudi wife and mother of three, said that the show is not adding any value to the viewer.
