- JEDDAH: A police officer was shot in the hip during a gunfight between a security patrol and three men in the northern city of Hail early on Friday.
Officers said one of the suspects also suffered similar injuries and added that both the injured were rushed to hospital.
A police spokesman said the patrol had stopped a car driven by a 31-year-old Saudi suspected of having no identity card or any other official papers.
When the man was asked to accompany the officers to the police station, he sped away to his home where his two housemates opened fire, injuring one of the policemen.
The policemen returned fire, hitting the driver.
According to police, the two injured men are in a stable condition and an investigation into the incident has already started.
