- MAKKAH: A woman and her four children, three girls and a boy, died on Tuesday in a massive fire that engulfed their small apartment located on the roof of a two-story building in Makkah's Misfala district.
Lt. Col. Ali Al-Muntashry, director of investigations and spokesman of the Civil Defense, confirmed the deaths that took place in the early hours of the day. He said eight Civil Defense teams took part in the operation to control the fire.
He said the fire broke out in the two-bedroom flat on the roof of the building. The flat’s interior was separated by wooden dividers while its roof was made of zinc.
Al-Muntashry said an investigation has been launched to find out the reason for the fire. He said the Civil Defense officers were successful in preventing the spread of the fire to neighboring areas.
