- BURAIDAH: A judge in Buraidah sentenced three Saudi in their 20s to “etikaf” and dedicated study of the Qur’an instead of a custodial and lashing sentence, Al-Jazirah reported.
“Etikaf” involves deep worship inside a mosque during the last 10 days of Ramadan. The judge decided the men had shown enough remorse and because of their prior clean criminal record.
The trio will have to spend the last 10 days of Ramadan doing “etikaf” and memorizing two chapters of the Qur’an. The judge said this alternative punishment gives a guilty person the chance to reflect on what he has done and repent.
