- MAKKAH: It's not that the physically disabled are immune from being punished, but it perhaps would be nice if they weren't further disabled by the lashings they get in prison.
According to a local report in Thursday's edition of Okaz, a partially paralyzed man was sentenced to six months in a jail and 150 lashes. The report didn't bother to mention what crime he was found guilty of committing, but it did say the man claims to have lost part of his vision after being wheeled into jail and severely lashed as part of his sentence. The National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) in Makkah recently intervened to get the man out of prison.
