The prince had asked all public and private establishments to help the society collect Zakat.

Managing director of the welfare society Sheikh Abdullah Al-Othaim, who is also chairman of the Jeddah summary court, said the society started receiving Zakat from the last 10 days of Ramadan and would continue to do so until Eid prayers.

Every Muslim, old or young, man or woman, has to pay Zakat Al-Fitr until the end of Ramadan. According to Sheikh Al-Othaim, it is SR15 per head.

He said the society has 10 cars, each manned by two employees, driving around Jeddah to collect Zakat.

Al-Othaim also said the society has established 30 temporary and 21 fixed centers in various parts of the city, in addition to 80 stalls in malls and supermarkets, for the collection of Zakat.

Director general of the society Sheikh Faisal Al-Humaid said the Zakat would be distributed among 6,000 poor families in the city. He said the society has a database with the names of poor and needy families in the city.
