- JEDDAH: German-Moroccan pop singer Nadja Benaissa announced that she would return to music but would not be with No Angels, the girl band that made her famous.
Benaissa, 28, was sentenced to two years prison by a German court two weeks ago for knowingly passing on the HIV virus to a sexual partner. She was handed a two-year suspended sentence for causing grievous bodily harm and two of attempted bodily harm.
After keeping away from stage for some time, Benaissa appeared on Saturday to sing for a charitable fund-raising event for the benefit of AIDS patients.
Benaissa came to fame as a Eurovision contest winner in 2000 as a member of the girl-band No Angels. Benaissa confessed to the charges against her at the opening of her trial in Darmstadt, Germany.
The accusation was that she knew she was HIV-positive and continued to have unprotected sex with sexual partners without informing them of her infection.
