- JERUSALEM: Israeli police say Turkey’s Embassy in Tel Aviv has received an envelope containing a suspicious white powder, similar to packages sent to other embassies last week.
Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld says embassy workers alerted police Monday after discovering the powder-laced letter. He says the substance isn’t poisonous and nobody was hurt.
Police are trying to determine if there’s any connection to threatening letters marked with swastikas and containing a nontoxic white powder that were sent to the American, Spanish and Swedish embassies last week.
Israel’s relations with Turkey have been tense since Israel’s deadly commando raid on a Turkish-led international flotilla that tried to breach Israel’s blockade of the Gaza Strip in May.
