- Quirkat’s first outing in social gaming was with a Facebook fantasy football league developed for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
- Now they’re back, and the UEFA Champions League is the focus in the all new EuroScorers.
All 32 teams and 874 players are available. There are cool prizes for high scorers and a lot of thrills, excitement and competition for football fanatics to enjoy. Learn about EuroScorers through www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=128850223827396&ref=ts and register to play through http://apps.facebook.com/euroscorers/app/register.
“Our developers were standing by, waiting for the announcements of the actual teams in order to draw the players,” said Mahmoud Ali Khasawneh, Quirkat’s CEO. “If a player gets injured, he’ll have to be removed and substituted. While we expect that there will be a majority of young men interested in EuroScorers, we have toned down the ‘macho’ look and feel of the game play. There are an enormous number of female fans for the UEFA Champions League and we’ve made the artwork a little bit cute and the game easy to play so it will be attractive to fans of all ages and genders.”
According to Khasawneh, with very little marketing, Quirkat’s World Cup fantasy football game attracted more than 30,000 players. It was an excellent trial for their fantasy football concept since the entire tournament was just a month. Quirkat wanted to ensure that they had the resources to run the logistics around a fantasy sports game. The developers also learned a lot from the forums about how to improve the game.
Khasawneh pointed out that the UEFA Champions League is a nine month event and he hopes that EuroScorers will give Quirkat some traction in fantasy sports gaming. There are new payment mechanisms and micro transactions inside the game to handle customizations. In the next few days the game will launch in Chinese, with the goal of attracting fans from Asia. Quirkat’s partners will be promoting EuroScorers in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore, but not the People’s Republic of China (PRC) where Facebook is blocked. The idea is to test the Chinese version of the game in smaller markets before shifting it to another social gaming platform that’s available in mainland China. “It’s usually the developers from China who are selling their games to the Arab World so this is a turn around,” said Khasawneh with a laugh. “It seems that most development houses in the Middle East are really just agents for development studios elsewhere. We aren’t against Arab companies engaging in such business but we think that game developers in the Arab World are just as creative as developers elsewhere. The US is the next market for us to conquer. Football is an international theme so we foresee success there. When we promote EuroScorers in the US we’ll just call it soccer, and everyone will want to play!”
