A statement from the State Prosecutor's office released Wednesday says about 200 police officers were conducting scores of raids, mostly in the south of the country.

Police say the organized crime ring was smuggling cigarettes from Montenegro to Bosnia, Croatia and Germany.

It says it has been monitoring the group for months.

Bosnia is eager to move away from its image of a postwar country unable to deal with corruption and crime. It is seeking EU membership and has increased the fight against crime in the past decade.
