Abdul Latif Jameel Company (ALJ) recently organized a draw for the first 50 winners of its “Win free lifetime maintenance from Toyota service ... Yes I want” campaign 2010 in the presence of representatives of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and media. The campaign launched on Aug. 7 will continue till Sept. 30. The campaign gives an opportunity to all service guests who have visited or booked a service appointment with any ALJ service center Kingdomwide to enter the draw. The two grand prizewinners of the campaign will get free lifetime periodic maintenance service for their vehicles plus guests will still have the chance to win other service prizes. The campaign is part of ALJ’s promotion to ensure “peace of mind” driving experience.
 
SABIC

Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) opened its new office in Cape Town on Monday in the presence of Prince Saud bin Abdullah bin Thunayan Al-Saud, chairman of the Royal Commission for Jubail & Yanbu and SABIC chairman. Also present were SABIC Vice Chairman and CEO Mohamed Al-Mady, Saudi Arabia’s South African Ambassador Mohamed Ali, and the ambassadors of the UAE and Kuwait to South Africa, along with a number of senior officials of the South African government and SABIC. Prince Saud said: “The opening of our new office in Cape Town is a clear reflection of the national, regional and global market’s growing importance as consumers of chemicals, polymers and fertilizers. This new facility will not only strengthen SABIC’s existing business relationships in South Africa, but will also improve the company’s sales performance in neighboring countries. SABIC’s latest office reflects the company’s belief that a customer-centric focus is the optimum formula for business success and greater market share.” Al-Mady added: “This is another important stride we have taken toward achieving SABIC´s vision of being the preferred world leader in chemicals. Moreover, this new office will be the perfect complement to our storage and distribution center, which already exists in Durban, South Africa. The Cape Town office launch is a logical step forward for SABIC and ideally positions us to take the sales of chemicals, polymers and fertilizers to a whole new level in the region.”
 
Al Joudah

Al Joudah Construction, a Saudi construction and contracting company and part of Zahran Holding, signed a contract with General Authority for Civil Aviation (GACA) for the operation and maintenance (O&M) of five airports for SR285 million. The contract awarded for Al Joudah is described as the biggest awarded so far, which will entail the O&M and cleaning of domestic, regional and international airports in the Kingdom, including Prince Mohamed bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah, Prince Abdulmajeed bin Abdulaziz Airport in Aloula, Hail Airport, Tabuk Airport and Al Wajh Airport. Prince Fahad bin Abdullah bin Mohamed Al Saud, deputy minister of defense and aviation and vice chairman of the GACA board, and Khaled Al-Hudayyan, GM operations and maintenance at Zahran Holding, signed the deal. Al-Hudayyan said: “Our commitment is ongoing to implement the highest of global standards and services for the O&M of the civil airports industry. By working with the top national experts and cadres providing the best accredited global technologies in the field, we strive to provide a comfortable environment for the benefactors.” Al Joudah will also be responsible for the maintenance of airport cleanliness, grassing of outside areas, water and spare parts supply, provision of vehicles and equipment, and examining systems and the standard of performance and provision of the top quality manpower to achieve the results within the highest level of development and enhancement.
 
Bahra Cables

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, Bahra Cables Company, the latest and among the leading cable factories in the Kingdom and a member of CPC Group of Companies, renovated seven mosques in the Bahra District with equipment, and all the needed interior and exterior accessories. Talal Idriss, CEO of Bahra Cables Company, said: “This program is nothing to be questioned about, as it comes as part of our responsibility and love toward this precious country, especially that the CSR programs are highly encouraged and recommended by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, which allows to establish solidarity and collaboration among the citizens of this great nation.” Renovation of mosques is among Bahra Cables’ ongoing CSR programs.

BITS, Pilani-Dubai (BPD) hosted its seventh convocation ceremony in Dubai International Academic City recently. The chief guest, India’s UAE Consul General Sanjay Verma presented the certificates to the seventh batch of 337 students who graduated in various engineering disciplines from the institute. The first and second rank holders in each discipline and the best all-round achievers received special awards. Toppers of last year’s batch were presented with Chancellor’s gold, silver and bronze medals. A total of 1,319 students have graduated from BPD till date. Several graduates have obtained admission to Masters and Ph.D programs at more than 65 highly reputable institutions like Stanford University-California, Cornell University, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, University of California, University of Pennsylvania, Texas A&M University-Texas, Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Michigan, Purdue University, New Jersey Institute of Technology and University of Toronto. The remaining students are well placed in highly reputable multinational companies. The event also saw the conclusion of the 10th year celebrations. M. Ramachandran the retiring director, spoke on the multidimensional growth the institute had in the past 10 years and its several milestones achieved. The graduation ceremony marked the end of four years of engineering studies by the students, which included more than seven months of rigorous internship in various reputable industries in the UAE.
