- ROME: A group of 30 people have embarked on a new cycling challenge in a bid to raise awareness of the plight of the Palestinians while also supporting the activities of the Welfare Association, a UK-based NGO that works in the West Bank, Gaza and the refugee camps in Lebanon.
The group is called Cycling4Gaza, (see link to know more about this challenge: www.cycling4gaza.com) and are undertaking this cycling challenge from Pisa to Rome, tackling those rolling hills by bike with the aim to raise funds for the Welfare Association. The group will ride 350 km to get to Rome in just four days.
The NGO, the Welfare Association (www.welfareassociation.org.uk), was established in 1993, and supports humanitarian and development projects for Palestinians. Its main area of action is education, including early childhood development in Gaza. It aims to provide the children of Gaza with some hope of a bright future by creating partnerships with local organizations in Gaza whose work focuses on early childhood development.
The funds raised will be split between three of the Welfare's partner organizations which will provide aid to "Mental Health Program", "Kanafani Kindergartens" and "Deaf Children".
