Qatar Airways
Qatar Airways recently received relief goods from the United States on board its newest aircraft with the aid destined for victims of the devastating floods in Pakistan. The supplies arrived on the delivery flight of the Doha-based carrier’s 22nd Boeing 777, into Doha direct from Seattle following a 14-hour journey. Qatar Airways, Boeing and two non-profit organizations — AmeriCares and International Medical Corps — collaborated to bring the relief aid from the United States. The uplift in the cargo hold of the airline’s newest 777-300 Extended Range aircraft comprised almost 35,000 pounds of medicine and medical supplies. The aid supplies are to be flown to Islamabad from Doha on three separate Qatar Airways’ commercial flights with the first of these flights departing recently. Once arriving in the Pakistani capital, local charity groups will distribute the aid throughout the country’s flood-hit regions. This delivery follows several other consignments of emergency aid sent from Qatar since the outbreak of devastating floods in Pakistan, which have affected millions of people across the country. Relief items in this latest shipment are mainly health and medical supplies, including prescription drugs and hygiene kits. Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker said: “The devastation that has affected the people of Pakistan is truly tragic. Together with our partners we hope to make a difference in the lives of those that have been so tragically impacted.”
