- RIYADH: Chairman of the Committee for the Welfare of Prisoners, Released Prisoners and Their Families (Tarahum) Abdul Salam Al-Rajhi commended the decision by Acting Riyadh Governor Prince Sattam, who is also honorary president of Tarahum, to disburse SR1.28 million, the second installment of the annual house rent for the families of 90 prisoners.
The payment is part of the Prince Sattam Program for Sponsoring Prisoners.
The beneficiaries of the assistance include released prisoners and prisoners’ families in addition to current prisoners, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Friday.
“This is the first integrated program in the Kingdom to care for the families of prisoners. The program ensures that the daily requirements of the dependents of prisoners are fulfilled after the breadwinner of the family has been thrown into prison in order for beneficiaries to become creative members of society,” Al-Rajhi said in a statement. He said the program was prepared after a meticulous study into prisoners and their families across the Kingdom. It is on the basis of the study that the prince decided that the focus of the assistance should be to pay rent and help families to find work so that they become self-dependent and are integrated into mainstream society, he said.
