The man was trying to take a shortcut when his car broke down. His family contacted the authorities who launched a search and rescue operation. The man was found in critical condition after spending several hours in the sun.

A spokesman for the Civil Defense warned people against taking unfamiliar roads and urged them to stick to the main roads when traveling alone. He said this was the sixth recent search and rescue operation in the desert.
