- DUBAI: Dubai Customs successfully blocked an attempt to smuggle over 48,000 counterfeit video game CDs which were hidden in cartoon boxes at the Dry Port Inspection Center.
- According to state news agency WAM, the haul has an original value of AED 5 million.
The seizure was carried out recently when Dubai Customs staff at Dry Port inspected the container and found 48 boxes containing the duplicated video game CDs.
A source at the Land Cargo Operation at Dubai Customs said that the inspectors are familiar with different smuggling techniques due to specialized training courses they received in combating commercial fraud.
The source added that Customs inspectors are always on the look out for any smuggling attempt or violation.
The announcement coincides with GITEX Exhibition 2010 affirming Dubai Customs’ keenness to maintain Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) for all sorts and types of programs and technical products.
