“This week's security sweeps resulted in the arrest of at least 32 crime suspects, also 641  illegal overstayers — men and women — were captured during the raid,” police spokesman First Lt. Nawaf Al-Bouq of the Jeddah police told Arab News.

Crimes were drug and alcohol dealing, car theft, fraud, operating unlicensed businesses and harboring illegal immigrants.

This week’s arrests occurred in Al-Mohammadiah, Al-Naieem, Al-Khumrah, Al-Balad, Al-Ajaweed, Aziziyyah, Al-Thageer, Al-Jamea, Kilo 6 and Kilo 7.

“Those arrested in this week’s raids are all in custody now and they will be transferred — along with items seized as evidence during the raid — to authorities concerned,” Lt. Nawaf Al-Bouq said.

Citizens are advised to call 642-5550 if they witness suspicious activities.

Jeddah police Director Maj. Gen. Ali Muhammad Al-Ghamdi said: “Social, community responsibility necessitates the cooperation from local residents, it is always welcomed by the police, which aid in ridding the city of criminal and suspicious activities.”
