His publicist, Kirt Webster, tells The Associated Press that "George is home, resting and all is well." Webster says Jones feels fine and was even making football predictions.

The 79-year-old went in for an annual checkup Wednesday, and doctors required him to stay overnight to continue monitoring him. He underwent a number of tests and was cleared to leave the Nashville-area hospital. Jones has received numerous awards and charted more than a dozen No. 1 hits throughout his long career, including the classic song "He Stopped Loving Her Today."

He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1992.
