- Prince Mishaal bin Majed launched the first phase of the polio vaccination campaign for 2011 at his office on Saturday.
“The campaign targets to vaccinate more than half a million children aged between one day and five years,” said Assistant Director for Primary Health Care at the Health Department, Dr. Sami Eid.
The primary health centers in Jeddah, Rabigh, Leeth and Adam recruited a sufficient number of manpower and are equipped with tools and vaccines for field service in residential districts and public locations. The five-day campaign will begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday and on other days at 4 p.m. and continue till 10 p.m.
Director of Health Department in Jeddah Sami Badawood said children in the region are free from polio. He said the Ministry of Health is determined to continue anti-polio campaigns in order to prevent the disease coming back especially when millions of pilgrims and others from different parts of the world pass through the city annually.
