- In light of the crisis of reservations at Saudi Arabia Airlines (Saudia) — virtually the only airline in the country, where bookings are canceled, departures are delayed and flight times are confusing — I would like to give some advice to passengers who spend long hours at airports.
This chaos in Saudia has angered many people because of the bad service and the low number of aircraft devoted to many domestic destinations. My advice is — read a book.
I fully support the recent announcement that Riyadh's King Khaled International Airport would offer a selection of books donated by King Abdul Aziz Public Library for people to read while they wait to board. The books, covering various aspects of knowledge, are suitable for men, women and children. The library, whose tranquility I enjoy greatly, has done very well by supplying passengers with books.
The gift of books has coincided with the chaos in domestic flights and the insufficient number of seats on the Riyadh-Jeddah route.
I was a witness to this incident at the airport in Riyadh. After a passenger had his reservation canceled without explanation, he demanded to speak to a person in charge. The Saudia employee simply ignored him, which brought to my mind the proverb that says “he who is safe from punishment can do what he wants.”
I wish those Saudia employees would find their way over to the book corner at the airport and check to see if there are any books about successful airport management and professional accountability. If they read about the experiences of others perhaps they will discover how wrong they are!
