- MAKKAH: The Civil Defense has accused some schools in the holy city of neglecting fire hoses, closing the emergency exits and entries, and disconnecting keyboards linked to the warning systems, Al-Watan newspaper reported Friday.
It said the Civil Defense conveyed these findings, made after safety teams had toured a number of public and private schools, to the Department of Education.
The paper added that Director of Education Bakr Basfar issued a circular to all schools in Makkah to take the observations of the Civil Defense into account and to strictly abide by safety measures.
The Civil Defense asked the schools to keep the warning system operating and to clear all emergency exits and entries of any obstacles.
